Mind Trick

Cost: 1 Character Point / Level

A Mind trick is a single command ("use the restroom" "you don't need to see my identification" "let me in") that the target must obey or a single altered memory ("I had breakfast with you today" "you already saw my ID" "I just came from inside"). Violent commands that the target would be opposed to normally committing may be issued at higher levels, although these commands are resolved after a single action is undertaken. For example, the command of "Shoot your friend" or "Kill your friend" might result in one guard firing his pistol at his friend. Once that attack was completed (even if the friend survived the shot or the guard missed entirely), the effects of the Mind Trick are elapsed. Commands that are too complex will just confuse the target. Complex or long lasting commands require the Mind Control Attribute.

If desired, you may place limitations on your Mind Trick. These limitations reduce the total cost of the Attribute (never below 1), not the cost per level. Thus, a character could spend 1 character point and get level 5 Mind Trick that can only be used to manipulate happiness (Single Emotion limitation) in people who have been microchipped by the Mega Corp (Specific Targets limitation).

Limitations:

  • General Targets (1 point): the Mind Trick may only be used on a general classification of targets (by Species (Humans sometimes qualify), by Time of day, etc.)
  • Specific Targets (2 points): the Mind Trick may only be used on a specific classification of targets (by profession, by physical trait, by something that has been done to them, etc.)
  • Single Emotion (2 points): all Tricks must relate to a single emotion (either creating it or quelling it).
