Magic or Psionics

Cost: 4-6 points

This attribute allows a character to invoke other attributes through their magic (or psionics), rather than innately possessing the attribute themselves (they may take Life Support as an attribute to always breath underwater, or they may take it through Magic or Psionics to only have the Life Support attribute when they cast the appropriate spell). It costs a character Energy Points in order to cast a spell. If the spell has an instantaneous effect (such as a Weapon Attack), the character must spend Energy Points each time the attack is used. If the spell has a passive effect (such as Life Support), the character must spend Energy Points per scene that the spell will be active.

When a character purchases the Magic or Psionics attribute, they are given "Magic Points". The character may then spend those Magic Points on Attributes which may be accessed as spells. The Energy Point cost for each spell is equal to the number of Magic Points that the character spent on the spell, modified by the following options (these may be determined on a per spell basis):

Focus

A Focus is a special tool that the character requires to cast a spell. If the character is deprived of the tool, they are unable to cast their magic. If a spell has this restriction placed on it, it costs half as much energy to cast (or it counteracts the increased cost from either Still or Silent).

Ritual

A Ritual spell is one that takes anywhere from several minutes to several hours to complete (or more, for special cases). During a Ritual, the character must do nothing but the Ritual itself, lest it be interrupted and require that it be restarted. A Ritual spell costs half as much energy to cast (or counteracts the increased cost from either Still or Silent).

Silent

A Silent spell does not require the character to speak any words or make any noises in order to be completed. A Silent spell costs double the usual energy in order to cast (or triple, if both Silent and Still are taken).

Still

A Still spell does not require the character to move or gesture in order to be completed. A Still spell costs double the usual energy in order to cast (or triple, if both Silent and Still are taken).

The Magic or Psionics attribute has a variable cost, depending on if the character wants to cast Magic or Psionic powers. Magic costs 4 points per level and may employ any or none of the above modifier options. Psionics costs 6 points per level, but every Psionic power is both Silent and Still and does not suffer the increased energy costs from those two options.
